Sofa and lounge removals in Hobart

Move a single couch, a lounge suite or a newly purchased sofa with a clear plan for both homes. Tell us about the piece, the access and where it needs to go.

Move the sofa you want to keep, buy or pass on

A lounge can be the last thing left in a house and still need the most thought. There is its size, the turn out of the living room, the steps outside and the person waiting at the other address. Getting those details together makes the enquiry much easier.

Tas Removals & Storage can help with sofa and lounge removals in Hobart, whether you are moving one couch, a lounge suite or the furniture from a whole home. Tell us what is moving and where it needs to go. We can plan the collection, protection and delivery around the actual item and the access at each end.

You might be collecting a second-hand sofa in Glenorchy, moving a lounge out of a Sandy Bay apartment or sending a family couch to a home in Kingston. Include both addresses and any deadline. For other pieces travelling with it, use our Hobart furniture removalists guide to put the complete load in one enquiry.

Start with three useful things

A photo of the whole lounge, its measurements and pictures of the tightest part of each access route give the team something practical to work with. Add the collection and delivery suburbs, preferred dates and the people available at both homes.

Which sofa or lounge is moving?

“One sofa” can mean a light two-seater or a much heavier sofa bed. Describe the design, upholstery and separate sections, and mention any existing damage or loose fittings. A product listing or model name can help if you have it.

Swipe across the table to read every column. Keyboard users can focus the table and use the arrow keys.

Details worth sending with a sofa removal enquiry
Lounge typeWhat to describeWhat needs checking
Two-seater or three-seater couchOverall length, depth and height; fabric or leather; loose cushions.Bulky arms, fixed backs and whether the legs are designed to come off.
Modular or sectional loungeThe number of modules and the dimensions of each large section. How the sections connect, which end has the chaise and the maker’s instructions.
Sofa bedMake or model, the closed dimensions and any known weight information. The internal mechanism and the manufacturer’s transport instructions.
Recliner or electric loungeManual or powered operation, separate seats and detachable parts.Controls, cords and any disassembly or preparation the manufacturer permits.
Lounge suite with armchairsEvery couch, chair, ottoman and loose cushion included.Total truck space and the route for the largest or heaviest piece.

For a chaise lounge, say which side the chaise sits on when viewed from the front. Photograph the whole piece as well. For a modular lounge, keep a simple sketch or photo of the layout so the receiver knows which sections belong together. These details help with placement after delivery.

Will the lounge get through both homes?

Check the whole route from the sofa’s room to the collection point, then from the delivery point to its new room. A wide front door does not tell us about the hallway bend behind it.

  • Doorways and hallways: record the clear opening, narrow points and tight corners. Photos should show the approach as well as the opening.
  • Stairs and landings: give the number of flights, turns, handrails and any low ceiling above the route.
  • Apartment lifts: provide the lift opening and internal dimensions, building moving hours and any booking requirements.
  • Outside access: describe driveway slope, gates, steps and the distance from suitable truck parking to the door.

Measurements help the team plan; they do not prove that an awkward lounge will fit. Mention uncertainty before booking and use our Hobart moving access guide for the wider route. If ordinary access is doubtful, the team needs to discuss a suitable method before collection.

Check the City of Hobart parking rules and loading-zone conditions for an address within that municipality. Other Greater Hobart addresses may fall under a different council. Tell the team about the signs and restrictions; the nearest kerb is not necessarily a usable loading point.

Buying a sofa from a private seller?

A second-hand lounge can be a good find, but collection needs more than a street address. Before committing to the purchase, get the dimensions and destination access details together. It is better to find out about a narrow landing while you can still make a decision.

  1. Get permission and a collection contact. The seller should know a removalist is collecting. Supply their name, phone number and the address where the lounge is actually held.
  2. Agree when the item can be released. Complete the purchase arrangements with the seller and make sure the right person will be there. Share any firm collection deadline with the team before booking.
  3. Request honest photos. Ask for the full sofa, existing marks, its underside if safely accessible and the route out of the property. You can ask the seller for access photos without asking them to lift it.
  4. Name the delivery contact. Someone needs keys and instructions at the receiving home, even if you are not attending yourself.

Collection timing and the transport booking need to work for both parties. A seller’s preferred time does not reserve a moving slot. Ask Tas Removals & Storage to confirm the available collection plan before promising one.

Picking up other furniture on the way? List each item against its own address. Our multiple-address furniture collection guide helps you explain the stops without leaving an extra pickup to moving day.

Get the lounge ready for collection

Empty any storage compartments, gather loose cushions and identify removable pieces. Keep hardware with a label identifying the sofa it belongs to. If legs or sections can come off, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and agree who will do that work. Do not assume every recliner back or sofa-bed mechanism dismantles the same way.

Tell the team about delicate leather, light fabric, exposed timber, tears or fragile fittings. Take clear condition photos before collection. Ask what furniture wrapping or moving blankets are included and how the upholstery and separate parts will be protected. Avoid sticking adhesive tape directly to the sofa’s finish.

If you clean the lounge beforehand, leave it fully dry before wrapping or storing it. Keep pets away from the preparation area and move small obstacles out of the route. Leave the heavy handling to the agreed crew; you do not need to drag the lounge outside to make a useful enquiry.

WorkSafe Tasmania’s hazardous manual tasks guidance explains the importance of managing handling risks. The job needs suitable people, equipment and access; a heavy lounge and a tight staircase should be discussed together.

For an electric recliner, supply the model and maker’s preparation instructions. Keep permitted detachable cords and controls identifiable. Repairs, electrical work and modifications need their own appropriate help and should not be assumed to form part of furniture transport.

Make room for the sofa at delivery

Decide where the lounge will sit before it arrives and clear that room’s access route. Give the receiver a photo of the intended layout if you cannot attend. Say whether delivery is requested into the room and whether reassembly or reconnecting permitted sections is needed, so those tasks can be included in the booking.

When the old lounge is leaving on the same day, explain where it is going and whether that happens before the new one arrives. Furniture delivery does not automatically include rubbish disposal. Check acceptance at any reuse, recycling or disposal destination before making it part of a moving request.

If the new home is not ready, discuss the gap before collection. Our Hobart moving and storage service covers collection, a storage interval and later delivery. Include the sofa dimensions, likely storage period and eventual receiving address, with the handling and delivery costs considered together.

Ask what cover applies to the booked work and whether any separate cover is required. Your own policy also needs checking for moving or storage. Moneysmart’s contents insurance guide is a useful starting point for reading cover, limits and exclusions; confirm your circumstances with the insurer.

What affects a Hobart sofa removal quote?

The quote needs the item size and handling requirements, both addresses, access, travel, dates and any requested dismantling, protection or storage. One couch is a smaller inventory than a whole house, but awkward stairs or a long carry still need time and suitable handling.

Our local removalist costs in Hobart guide explains hourly and fixed-price questions, minimum charges and how to compare the complete job. Ask how your own sofa move will be priced and what happens if the item list or access changes.

Questions about Hobart sofa and lounge removals

Can I book removalists for one sofa in Hobart?

Yes, enquire about the single couch rather than estimating a full-house load. Send its dimensions and photos, both addresses, access details and dates. Tas Removals & Storage can quote for the requested collection and delivery and confirm the available booking plan.

Can you move a modular lounge or chaise sofa?

Describe the number of sections, their dimensions, the chaise position and how the pieces connect. Provide the manufacturer’s instructions if you have them. Agree any separation and reassembly work in advance, and identify the intended layout at the receiving home.

Can a sofa be collected from an apartment with stairs?

Give the floor, stair flights, turns, landings, narrow points and parking details, with photos. If there is a lift, provide its opening and internal dimensions and moving-hour rules. The handling method and suitability need checking for the actual lounge and building before booking.

Does sofa transport include dismantling and reassembly?

Include those tasks in your enquiry and have the quote state what is covered. Legs, modular connectors, recliner backs and sofa-bed mechanisms differ by model. The manufacturer’s instructions and the condition of the furniture help establish what can be done appropriately.

How much does a sofa removal in Hobart cost?

The quote depends on the lounge size and handling, collection and delivery addresses, access, dates and requested protection or extra tasks. Ask whether the price is fixed or time-based, what minimum or travel charges apply and how a change to the job would be priced.

Can I request collection from a private seller?

Provide the seller’s permission, contact details, address, access photos and available times. Complete the purchase and release arrangements with the seller. Ask the team to confirm a suitable collection plan before promising the seller a moving time.

Can my lounge go into storage before delivery?

Discuss the storage interval and later destination before collection. Include the sofa dimensions, separate sections and any protection needs. Confirm the collection, storage, handling and later delivery costs together, with the receiving contact and release arrangements included.

What if the sofa may not fit through a doorway?

Flag the concern before booking and send the sofa measurements and photos of the complete route, including bends, stairs and door approaches. Measurements alone do not guarantee a fit. Any alternative access or specialist handling needs discussion and confirmation before the collection proceeds.
